These Broccoli Potato Patties / Broccoli Aloo Tikki are super easy, healthy and a delicious starter/appetizer recipe. A great alternative to a traditional Potato Patties/Aloo Tikki. This recipe is a must try!!

WHAT IS BROCCOLI POTATO PATTIES

These patties are made with broccoli, potato and some Indian spices, give this simple patties/tikki a  lovely flavors and a nice and a vibrant green color. It tastes and looks just amazingggg!!

Broccoli is one of my favorite vegetables. A great tasting food, which is low in calories and rich in it's nutrients value. I love making these Broccoli Potato Patties / Broccoli Aloo TIkki, these are so yum and super easy to make, my kids absolutely love these Broccoli Potato Patties / Broccoli Aloo Tikki, a super healthy alternative to the traditional Aloo tikki.

I think it's a great way to incorporate veggies into our daily diet. These make excellent make ahead party appetizer also. Make it a day before the party. You can make these into patties shape and pan fry just before your guests arrive. Or you could just reheat these the next day, works just fine.

These Broccoli Potato Patties / Broccoli Aloo Tikki make great lunches too. I pack these for my kids lunches, serve it on a bun and you have a veggie Broccoli Potato burger or make a sandwich out of it. Serve with some ketchup or hot and sweet tomato sauce. At the end of the day I get a happy lunchbox ?

 

HOW TO MAKE BROCCOLI POTATO PATTIES

I like to steam the broccoli florets, cool and chop the broccoli florets.

Mix with some boiled, mashed potatoes, some Indian spices.

Shape it into a patties and pan fry for nice brown color.

These Broccoli Potato Patties / Broccoli Aloo Tikki are crispy from outside and super moist from inside.

Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Ingredients
  

  • 2 medium potato boiled and peeled, How to boil potatoes
  • 2 cup broccoli florets steamed, How to Steam Broccoli
  • 1 medium red onion chopped
  • 1 green chili finely chopped (as per taste)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • Handful of fresh cilantro chopped

Dry Spices:

  • 1 teaspoon roasted cumin seeds powder
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • ½ teaspoon dry mango powder
  • ½ teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 3-4 tablespoon oil for making patties

Instructions
 

  • Boil, peel and mash potatoes using a masher or a fork.
  • Steam broccoli florets, let it cool slightly. Add broccoli into a food processor, pulse couple of times.  I like to keep it little course, mix of chunks. Alternatively, you could chop the broccoli using a knife.
  • In a mixing bowl, add mashed potato, broccoli, onion, green chili.
  • Add all the dry spices, cumin seeds, fresh cilantro and salt to taste. Combine the mixture, to form a soft dough.
  • Divide the dough, into 10 equal portions.
  • Apply some oil onto palms, take portion of a dough, shape it into a patties.
  • Follow instructions for cooking on Stove Top or Air Fryer.

Instructions for Stove Top:

  • Heat a nonstick fry pan/griddle. On a high to medium heat, drizzle couple of tablespoon of oil, when oil is hot, carefully place the patties.
  • Cook for 3-4 min, when one side turns brown, flip and cook on the other side.
  • Serve Broccoli Potato patties/tikki with some ketchup. Enjoy!

Instructions for Air Fryer:

  • Pre-heat air fryer to 400Spray the air fryer basket with some cooking oil. Carefully place the patties onto the air fryer basket. Spray the patties with some cooking oil.
  • Cook for 7-9 min, or until nice and crispy.
  • Serve Broccoli Potato patties/tikki with some ketchup. Enjoy!

Notes

  1. The ingredients combine well to form a soft dough. If the dough is too soft to shape into patties, add some bread crumbs. Bread crumbs help absorb extra moisture, thus making the dough workable.
  2. These make excellent make ahead party appetizer recipe also. Make it a day before the party. You can make these into patties shape and pan fry just before your guests arrive. Or simply reheat these the next day, works just fine.
  3. These Broccoli Potato Patties / Broccoli Aloo Tikki make great lunches too. Serve it on a bun and you have veggie Broccoli Potato burger or make a sandwich out of these.
  4.  Steam broccoli for 30-60 secs, it should have some crunch to it.
