SMOKY SALSA

Salsa is one of the sauces typical to Mexican cuisine used as a dip. Salsa is mainly a tomato based dip, and includes ingredients such as onion, peppers, lime juice and salt. There are many variations of salsa. But this homemade salsa is much better than any store bought or even of any restaurant. Salsa varies in flavor from mild to extra spicy. I am using Chipotle pepper in adobe sauce which gives this salsa a very distinctive smoky flavor and habanero pepper for an extra spiciness. The best part of this homemade salsa is that it can be customized to your taste.

1 can, 14.5 oz, diced tomatoes
1 small green bell pepper, deseeded, roughly chopped
1 small red bell pepper, deseeded, roughly chopped
1 medium red onion, roughly chopped
2 cloves garlic
Chipotle in adobo sauce, ½ pepper (or as per taste)
Habanero pepper, 1 ct (optional)
3-4 tbsp, fresh lime juice (or as per taste)
Handful of fresh cilantro
Salt to taste

Instructions:
Add all the ingredients into a food processor. Pulse few times, to get desired consistency. Enjoy!!

Note(s):

  1. A distinctive smoky flavor and spiciness in salsa is achieved by using chipotle pepper, and use of Habanero adds extra spiciness to this salsa. Habanero pepper may be substituted with jalapeno or Serrano pepper, for a milder salsa. Please adjust the spice level as per taste.
  2. The consistency of salsa can be adjusted as per taste. You can keep it chunky or smooth as desired.
  3. The spiciness can be adjusted to taste, you can add jalapeno pepper to make it spicy.
  4. Fresh tomatoes may be substituted in place of can tomatoes.
