Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk powder full-fat preferred
  • ⅓ -½ cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons ghee
  • ¼ teaspoon cardamom powder
  • A pinch of saffron strands optional
  • 1 tablespoon chopped pistachios or almonds for garnish

Instructions

  • In a large microwave-safe glass bowl, combine milk powder, condensed milk, milk, and ghee.
  • Mix well until you get a smooth, thick batter without lumps.
  • Microwave on high for 1 minute. Remove carefully and stir well.
  • Continue to microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval to ensure even cooking.
  • Cook for approximately 3-4 minutes, or until the mixture thickens and comes together like a soft dough.
  • Add cardamom powder and saffron. Mix well.
  • Allow the mixture to cool for 5-10 minutes until warm enough to handle.
  • Grease your palms lightly with ghee. Divide the mixture into 12 equal portions.
  • Roll each portion into a smooth ball and gently flatten to form a peda.
  • Make a small indentation in the center using your thumb or the back of a spoon.
  • Garnish with chopped pistachios or almonds.
  • Allow the pedas to cool completely before serving.

Notes

  • Use full-fat milk powder for rich and creamy pedas.
  • Use a large microwave-safe bowl, as the mixture expands while cooking.
  • Stir every 30 seconds to ensure even cooking and prevent hot spots.
  • Microwave cooking time may vary depending on wattage.
  • The mixture should be soft and pliable, not too dry or crumbly.
  • Do not overcook, as the pedas will become firm as they cool.
  • If the mixture feels sticky, allow it to cool before shaping.
  • If it feels too dry, knead in a teaspoon of warm milk.
  • Add a few drops of rose water or extra saffron for a festive variation.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Bring to room temperature before serving.
