Ingredients
 
 

  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1 small onion ,finely chopped (about ⅓ cup onion)
  • 1 small tomato ,finely chopped (about ⅓ cup tomato)
  • 1 green chili ,finely chopped; adjust to taste
  • 2 tablespoon cilantro leaves ,chopped
  • ½ teaspoon roasted cumin powder (jeera powder)
  • ¼ teaspoon pink Himalayan salt (pink or white); adjust to taste
  • pinch red chili powder (optional)
  • milk or water as needed for thinning the yogurt

For Garnish (Optional):

Instructions
 

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk the yogurt until it becomes smooth and creamy.
  • Add the finely chopped onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and green chili (optional) to the yogurt.
  • Add roasted cumin powder, red chili powder (optional), and pink salt to the mixture. Adjust the quantities according to your taste preferences.
  • Mix all the ingredients well until they are evenly combined.
  • Garnish the raita with fresh coriander leaves, red chili powder, and roasted cumin powder if desired.
  • Refrigerate the raita for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve the onion tomato raita chilled as a side dish with biryani, pulao, or any spicy Indian curry.
