Kacche Kele Ki Sabji | Raw Banana Curry | Plantain Recipes

Kache Kele Ki Sabji is a simple and delicious Indian dish made with raw bananas or plantains. This vegan Plantain Curry with North Indian flare is a spicy, flavorful, delicious meal ready in just 30 minutes.
Peel, slice or chop plantain into equal size rounds or cubes, about ½ inch. Transfer the cut bananas to a bowl. Sprinkle some salt, turmeric powder, and red chili powder (optional). Set aside.
Chop or slice onions, and mince garlic. Make a tomato, green chili, and ginger puree and set it aside.
Stovetop Kacche Kele Ki Sabji
Heat oil in a pan. Add the plantains and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side. Remove the plantains in a dish and set it aside.
In the same oil, add cumin seeds. Once the seeds begin to splutter, add onions and sauté until they turn light brown. Next, add minced garlic (optional) and cook for a minute. Now add tomato puree and cook for a few minutes.
Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, amchur powder, and salt to taste. Cook the onion-tomato masala till the oil separates.
Finally, add raw bananas, and water and mix everything well. Cover the pan and cook on medium heat for about 10-15 minutes until the raw bananas are tender and cooked.
Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Adjust the consistency of the curry, if required add some more water.Note: This curry is semi-dry. Adjust the consistency of the curry by adding more or less water as per taste.
Once the raw bananas are cooked, turn off the flame, Sprinkle some garam masala, and mix well. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
Serve hot with roti or rice. Enjoy your delicious kache kele ki sabji!
Instant Pot Raw Banana Curry
Turn ON saute (more). When it displays "HOT", add plantains and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side. Remove the plantains in a dish and set it aside.
In the same oil, add cumin seeds. Once the seeds begin to splutter, add onions and sauté until they turn light brown. Next, add minced garlic (optional) and cook for a minute. Now add tomato puree and cook for a few minutes.
Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, amchur powder, and salt to taste. Cook the onion-tomato masala till the oil separates.
Finally, add raw bananas, and water and mix everything well. Close the lid, and vent to sealing. Pressure cook (high) for 5 minutes. Allow 10 minutes of natural pressure release.Note: This curry is semi-dry. Adjust the consistency of the curry by adding more or less water as per taste.
After 10 minutes open the lid, sprinkle some garam masala, and mix well. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
Serve hot with roti or rice. Enjoy your delicious Raw Banana Curry!
Notes
For the stovetop pressure cooker, follow the same instructions as Instant Pot. After the first whistle reduce the heat to medium-low, and cook for 5 minutes. Allow pressure to release naturally. The rest of the recipe is the same as Instant Pot.Please refer to the post for the following:
