Instant Pot Cluster Beans / Gawar Aloo Ki Sabji

Gawar Aloo ki Sabji, a quick and easy recipe from Indian cuisine. Gawar or cluster beans is low in calories and highly nutritious. This Gawar Aloo ki subji is made with cluster beans, potatoes and some Indian spices. This vegan, nut-free Gawar Aloo ki subji can be made in under 20 minutes!!

Ingredients
  

  • 12 oz gawar (cluster beans), frozen, chopped
  • 1 potato, peeled and chopped, into 1 inch cube
  • 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 6-8 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, chopped
  • 1 green chili, as per taste
  • teaspoon Hing (Asafoetida)
  • ½ tablespoon Coriander Powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon Amchur Powder (Dry Mango Powder) optional
  • 3 tablespoon oil
  • 2 tablespoon water
  • Salt to taste

For garnish:

  • Handful of fresh cilantro
  • ½ teaspoon lemon juice, optional

Instructions
 

Instructions for Instant Pot Cooking:

  • Turn on Instant Pot to saute mode (high). When the "HOT" sign displays, add oil. Add asafoetida, ginger-garlic, saute for 2-3 min.
  • Add tomato, dry spices (coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, dry mango powder).  Saute for 2-3 min, until tomatoes are soften.
  • Add the cluster beans, chopped potatoes, salt to taste and 2 tablespoon of water. Mix well.
  • Set Instant Pot to Manual / Pressure Cook mode (HI) for 0 min. Followed by QPR (Quick Pressure Release).
  • Open the Instant Pot, turn on saute mode (high), saute for 2-3  min or until all the moisture is evaporated.
  • Serve cluster beans or gawar aloo ki sabji garnished with some fresh cilantro. Enjoy cluster beans with Tandoori roti, Naan, or Paratha!

Notes

  1. Fresh or frozen cluster beans or gawar/guvar can be used for this recipe. Frozen cluster beans or gawar/guvar is easily available in Indian/Asian grocery stores.
  2. If using fresh cluster beans, it will take little longer to cook as compared to the frozen ones. Adjust, the cooking time accordingly.
  3. This recipe is a dry dish,  mainly served as a side dish. Some lentil/dal may be served along with this dish.
  4. Adjust the spiciness as per taste.
  5. Lemon or lime juice may also be used instead of dry mango powder.
